Official Daily Competition Rules
The daily Spotlight is a skill-based creative competition run by MindPlay Media Studios. No purchase, payment or entry fee is required, and no purchase improves your chances.
How to enter
- Open the daily case, spin the wheel, choose one of the three assignments and file a Case Report of up to 500 counted characters. Filing the report is your entry.
- One entry per assignment per day. A filed report is reconstructed once and cannot be rewritten.
- Guests and signed-in Detectives are equally eligible.
Eligibility
- Open worldwide, wherever the app is available.
- Entries must be your own original work and must meet the Community Rules. Anything blocked by safety screening is not an eligible entry.
- Employees and contractors of MindPlay Media Studios and their immediate families may play but cannot be selected as the Daily Winner.
Studio Detectives
- The show operates five clearly badged demo detectives — Inspector Nightingale, Detective Daybreak, Captain Side-Eye, Agent Moonbeam and Scout Peachpit. They are studio-operated examples, not real people, and every one of their case files carries a “Studio Detective” badge.
- Studio entries are never eligible for prizes or rewards, and they never displace a real detective. A qualifying real player always takes the Daily Winner spotlight and the primary Spotlight slot. If nobody qualified on a given day, a clearly labelled Studio Spotlight placeholder may fill the slot instead.
- During a single, disclosed seven-day launch period the studio detectives may also appear in public rankings and launch activity, always badged. After that period they are permanently excluded from rankings, winners and the Hall of Fame, and remain only in the disclosed Studio Detectives showcase.
- Studio detectives may give and receive 👍 and ❤️ reactions. Studio reactions are shown separately, are always attributed to the studio, and never affect any score, ranking, winner, prize, popularity measure or player statistic.
Judging and scoring
- A panel of four judge characters scores each approved case out of 10, for a maximum total of 40 points, across originality, emotional truth, humour, storytelling and creative impact.
- The highest approved total for the day becomes the Daily Winner spotlight. Ties are settled by the Chief Detective's remark, then by the earliest filing time.
- Scoring is creative and subjective. The producers' decisions are final, and no correspondence about scores will be entered into.
Prizes and publicity
- The prize is recognition: the Daily Winner spotlight, a permanent Hall of Fame entry and a shareable case file. There is no cash or physical prize.
- Winning entries are published under the credit you chose — your Detective name or “Anonymous”. Your email address is never published.
- Entries are handled as described in the Privacy Policy, and the licence in the Terms of Use applies.
General
- The producers may pause, change or end the daily competition, and may disqualify any entry that breaks the rules or attempts to bypass safety screening.
- This competition is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Apple or Google.
